Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a man to humble himself…? Isaiah 58: 5-7
The Prophet here exposes the man doing the fasting and humbling himself, as one who is acting for himself only--showing others how holy he is..Prideful!is unacceptable to God.
In verse 6, the Prophet (at God's bidding) tells us to choose abstinence from ignoring or oppressing the weak;instead,the fasting to cleanse us in body and spirit,us to reach out freeing the oppressed, feeding the hungry, providing shelter and, clothing for the needy.the fasting acceptable to God.It is all aboutspiritual results.not beto a time frame on the calendar nor to abstaining only from food.when we abstain from food,pangs of hunger remind us that there are those who have not the means of satisfying their hunger!then, we--Here I Am Lord.will care and share.(Do I?)
