Monday, February 22, 2010 ~ Fifth Day of Lent

Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve only God.’” Luke 4:8

Jesus said this to Satan after being tempted with all this world has to offer. When Jesus said “It is written,” he was referring to Deuteronomy 6:13 where this was recorded by Moses 1400 years before Jesus. Moses told this to the people of Israel when they were about to enter Canaan and take the wealth of those people. Moses was saying, “Remember, God brought you to this land, and is giving you the fruit of these people.” When Jesus was being lured with riches and authority he strengthened himself with this already-ancient wisdom. He drew from his teachings the faith and knowledge that would change the world.
