A wandering Aramean was my ancestor… Deuteronomy 26:5
When you study phrases of the Old Testament, examine the language and word choices, note the placement of each word, and the antiquity of the thought, it becomes pretty apparent that this is the oldest sentence in the whole Bible. It was the original story that was told generation to generation, long before words were written. They would say “ my ancestor, my father in the faith, the very first person in my tribe, the place where my story begins… was with a wandering Aramean.” cThat’s who Abraham was. A wanderer who walked a path of faith with God, a path that sometimes went astray, sometimes was right on the mark, but was always one walked with God who never abandoned him. That’s our heritage. And it is enough of a story to help us walk today.
