How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! Luke 13:34
In this passage, Jesus is expressing his love and his heartbreak for Jerusalem. He yearns to love the people and hold them close, “as a hen gathers her brood,” yet they reject him. Could it be possible that Jesus longs to hold us close as well, yet we reject him? What other wonderful plans might God have for us that we are unwilling to accept? Sometimes it is easy to be so busy with life that we forget the Source of Life; we forget that God gives us the fullness of life if we have the courage to claim it.
