Tuesday, March 2, 2010 ~ Twelfth Day of Lent

God brought Abraham outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then God said to Abraham, “So shall your descendants be.” And Abraham believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6

I can count my descendants on the fingers of one hand. But, when God promised Abraham he would have countless descendents, Abraham and Sarah had no descendants at all. At that point, they didn’t need countless descendents, they needed one! The idea that, at their ages, they would have a child was, literally, laughable. Yet, Abraham believed the Lord would provide their first descendent. And, God gave them Isaac. And then the countless descendents followed. Abraham’s faith led him to expect God to keep promises. Through our faith, we can expect the same.

Let us pray

God, give us the strength and faith to believe. Amen.
